The Vikings were brave people who loved to sail the seas. They traveled far from their homes in Scandinavia, going to places as distant as North America and the Mediterranean Sea. They sailed in longships, were long, narrow boats that moved fast and could big waves. On a Viking longship, you would see things needed for their trips. They had oars and sails to move the ship, and special stones to find their way when the sun wasn’t visible. The Vikings also took weapons for protection and food like dried fish and grains for eating. In a Viking village, everyone had important work. The men went on voyages, in battles, and caught fish. The women took care of the home, crops, and made clothes. They also after the children and taught them about Viking traditions. Every person, young or old, had a role in keeping their community strong.
